Atmel is the First to Offer a Completely USB Full-Speed Certified Secure Microcontroller
ROUSSET, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 2002--Atmel®
Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced today that it received the USB
V2.0 Full Speed certification for the AT90SC6464C-USB. This
outstanding product is already shipping and is available for bulk
production.
The AT90SC6464C-USB is a Secure AVR® RISC microcontroller for
use in smart cards and e-Tokens, that features a dual communication
interface, USB Full-Speed / ISO 7816, 128 Kbytes of non-volatile
memory, a full set of very high level security features and an
outstanding 16-bit CPU performance.
The AT90SC6464C-USB provides 64Kbytes of on-chip Flash memory and
64Kbytes of EEPROM. Flash program memory gives unrivalled flexibility
for new applications with the ability to load or upgrade application
code during the production run with no delay. The large EEPROM data
memory enables the device to store enough secure data for complex
transactions. In addition, the AT90SC6464C-USB includes all the
security features already built into the AT90SC series. In particular
it provides a 16-bit RISC crypto-coprocessor for very efficient
execution of the highest-level encryption algorithms, RSA, AES
128/128, SHA-256. In addition, a hardware T-DES (Triple Data
Encryption Standard) co-processor, a true RNG (Random Number
Generator) and the support of ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography)
enhance the high cryptography performances of this device.
Herve Roche, Smart Card IC Marketing Manager said, "This
certification gives customers the assurance of USB Full-Speed
performance when deploying Atmel's USB secure microcontroller solution
on the PC security market addressing applications such as e-banking,
e-commerce, VPN, PKI, secured email and copy right protection. The
dual protocol AT90SC6464C-USB secure IC is a USB device with
plug-and-play convenience, while remaining compatible with the
established ISO 7816 infrastructure. The high data transfer rate over
the USB 2.0 Full-Speed interface 12 Mbps combined with a highly secure
architecture gives a very low cost secure IC for emerging
applications."
